About Wireman
Free tools for electricians, built by someone in the trade. Made for a phone on a job site.
What it is
Wireman puts the things you look up on the job in one place: 8 calculators that give a plain answer first and show the math, 141 step-by-step troubleshooting guides, wiring diagrams, formulas, code lookup and a field guide. The calculators and references work offline once you've visited.
For union members there's a Union section: job calls, wages and book numbers for 262 IBEW inside locals in all 50 states and DC, a map, saved searches and alerts, updated every day.
Who builds it
Wireman is built by an electrician and software developer in San Antonio, Texas. It started as the set of tools its builder wanted on the job. Ideas and corrections from people in the trade decide what gets built next.
Where the numbers come from
- Calculators and tables follow the 2023 NEC. Every table value is entered once, tested, and checked against the code book. Results are a design aid, not a substitute for the code book, the engineer of record or the authority having jurisdiction.
- Guides and references are written for Wireman in our own words, with code section numbers where they apply.
- Work board data comes from each local's public postings, online dispatch systems, federal prevailing wage records and member reports. About the data explains each source.
Not affiliated
Wireman is an independent site. It is not run by or endorsed by the IBEW, NECA, any local union, the NFPA or any state licensing board. NEC and National Electrical Code are registered trademarks of the NFPA.
How it stays free
Everything on the site today is free, and the job calls, wages and books will stay free. If paid extras come later, they'll be add-ons for people who want more, never a paywall on what's here now. There are no ads, and we never sell anyone's information. See Privacy.
Help make it better
- Something wrong or out of date on a local's page? Tap Report a change at the top of that page.
- A call already filled? Tap Filled or gone? on the call.
- Found it useful? Share it with your crew or your apprentice class. That's the biggest help of all.
